Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between maladaptive early schemas and emotional inhibition with cognitive and behavioral obsessions in graduate students of Islamic Azad University, Kerman Branch. The statistical population consisted of 2903 graduate students of Islamic Azad University, Kerman Branch in the academic year 2021-2022, from which 350 students were selected through stratified sampling method from the Faculty of Literature with 212 students, Faculty of Nursing with 2 students, Faculty of Sciences with 49 students, Faculty of Engineering with 57 students, and Faculty of Architecture with 30 students. The participants were provided with the Young Schema Questionnaire (1950), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (1994), and Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (1989). The data were analyzed using correlation coefficient and multiple regression. The results indicated a relationship between maladaptive early schemas and emotional inhibition with cognitive and behavioral obsessions. Among the predictor variables, emotional inhibition with a beta coefficient of 0.292 and significance of 0.000, and maladaptive early schemas with a beta coefficient of 0.278 and significance of 0.000 were determinants in the regression model. Emotional inhibition showed the highest correlation with cognitive and behavioral obsessions.
