Risk Management in the Laboratory based on the 17025 Standards

Abstract

In this study Risk Management in the Laboratory based on the 17025 Standards will be investigated. Risk-based thinking in laboratory centers is not a new issue. In the previous edition of the ISO / IEC 17025: 2005 standard, the term risk was used in several clauses. If a laboratory recognizes its own risks, it enables to evaluate them. The main aim of risk management is not to minimize any risk, rather, it is actually the optimization of the risks and opportunities set by the laboratories using an appropriate strategy. The ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 standard requires the laboratory to plan and implement measures to address risks and opportunities. Dealing with risks and opportunities is the basis for increasing the effectiveness of the management system, achieving improved results and preventing negative effects. To identify risks, it is helpful to consider the organization's internal and external environment. They use the "What If" method (SWIFT) and Brainstorming to identify risks. Or, for example, SWOT analysis is used. SWOT is a process in which the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of an organization are identified. The Brainstorming method can be used to perform SWOT or FMEA analysis.
